Department: Social Structure Department, Centre for Social Structures. Research Director, IUED.

Key areas of expertise / interest:
network analysis;

Summary: Emilio Luque obtained his Ph.D. in 2003 with a dissertation based on network analysis, applied to the notion of social capital. He has developed this methodology of matrix analysis of terms co-occurrence in a number of papers, notably "Economies of transparency", to appear in an edited book. He is currently completing a research project on cultural dynamics of contention on environmental issues. His other current area of interest is sustainability and the built environment, where his line of research has taken him to analyze the networks of socio-technical innovation and coordination that enhance (or hinder) the adoption of energy-efficient and other sustainable technologies, and the way architects/designers interact with other professionals in building processes. More directly related to ATACD is his research on "topograms", visual representations of social needs that mediate between architectural graphics and sociological data (with Carlos Arroyo).

Publications:

"Economies through transparency" (with Fabián Muniesa and Emiliano Grossman). In Christina Garsten and Monica Lindh de Montoya (eds.), Transparency In A New Global Order: Unveiling Organizational Visions, Edward Elgar (in press).
