Key areas of expertise/interest: Artificial Intelligence (AI) including natural language, vision, robotic behaviour, learning, cognitive architecture and knowledge representation.

Summary: Luc Steels is Professor of Computer Science at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). He is also the founder and director of the VUB Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in Brussels and the Sony Computer Science Laboratory in Paris. Luc Steels is considered both as a pioneer and innovator of Artificial Intelligence and Behavioural Robotics. His research interests cover the whole field of AI, including natural language, vision, robotic behaviour, learning, cognitive architecture and knowledge representation. One of his current concerns is the origins of language and meaning, Fluid Construction Grammars, and developing the foundations of Semiotic Dynamics.
