26-27 February 2010
Union Chapel London, London, UK
This workshop has been supported by funding under the Sixth
Framework Programme of the European Union.
The goal of this informal small-scale workshop is to develop insights into the processes that give rise to profound innovation in culture, for example new musical styles, literary forms, language constructions, gestural expressions, scientific theories, or visual art forms. We will explore the hypothesis that cultural objects usually satisfy a large number of constraints defining the artistic and stylistic practice at some point in time. These constraints are often violated, either accidentally or willingly, and such violations may occasionally lead to novel forms if they are recognised as having interesting and positive improvisations, and computational models of discovery processes.
Participants to the workshop are expected to stimulate discussion rather than give formal talks.
A programme of the workshop will be available here soon.
The workshop is closed to those participating in the workshop.
